The current PurePort Multi-Tool Kit is designed specifically for Apple iPhones, iPads and their Lightning connectors (including cables and accessories). It’s also not ideal for the iPad Pro gen 3 and later, the only Apple mobile devices to use the USB-C connection.

expand_moreWhy shouldn’t I just clean the port with a toothpick / toothbrush / paperclip or compressed air?We've experimented with every home remedy extensively (before we bothered to design PurePort). Although a toothpick or toothbrush can usually remove bigger clumps of lint, it doesn't get smaller debris fragments, can't reach the cavity behind the retainer springs easily, and doesn't wipe/clean the connector pins themselves - both inside your device, and on the tips/connectors of all your cables.
PurePort not only cleans but restores connectivity on connector pins damaged by previous arcing/oxide (the black marks you'll sometimes see on Lightning connectors). This means that all but the most severely damaged connectors can usually be returned to reliable use.
We certainly recommend you avoid any sharp metal tool (paperclips, pins) going in to your port - these can permanently damage the internal pins, requiring an expensive replacement of the entire port.
expand_moreWhy are connectivity problems more common on iPhones and iPads?The charge and data pins on the Apple Lightning cable connectors are EXPOSED - you can clearly see and touch them at the end of each cable (the 8 thin metal strips). This means over time tiny particles of dust, lint, hair drop onto those pins and can obstruct a clean electrical connection when in your device. And any oil from your fingertips makes it worse, as dust adheres to that.
An imperfect connection leads to slight arcing of the electrical connection, especially on the power pin (4th from left), which progressively gets worse each time you insert/remove the connection.
By comparison almost every other phone or computer data connection has a metal 'shield' around the outside, that protects the actual power and data pins inside. This makes issues less common for USB, USB-C, Micro-USB, Mini-USB, HDMI, DisplayPort and other common connector types.
expand_moreI use a wireless charger, do I still need this?Wireless charging has been around for a few years now, but hasn't exactly 'taken over' from the good old cable just yet.. A recent study found only 20% of iPhone users had used wireless in the past year.
But if you've managed to go totally wireless, well done! You won't need PurePort, or your Lightning port! Although if you still use it occasionally, it's still a good idea to keep your 'hole' clean.
Don't forget PurePort doesn't just clean Lightning ports, it also cleans and revives all connecting cables and accessories, and clears lint from the speakers, switches and headphone.
expand_moreHow often do I need to clean my iPhone/iPad?We recommend cleaning your Lightning ports and the rest of your iPhone or iPad every 3 months, to ensure you avoid issues before they occur - it only takes a minute.
If your devices are kept clean, you should only need to check cable and accessory connectors every 9-12 months, and clean or revive with Tools 4 or 5! respectively.
Of course whenever you experience connectivity issues you should clean your device immediately along with the affected cables/accessories.

You can clean your device better at home with PurePort, without the need to go to a store and wait around, whenever you have issues. You can even avoid these issues before they occur.
expand_moreI keep my phone in a case and pretty clean, do I still need this?If you have a phone case that covers your Lightning port entirely when not in use, and you always use that, your chances of contaminants entering the port are greatly reduced - so you may get away with not cleaning your port and cables. Other factors also affect how common these issues are, e.g. if you keep your phone in your pocket with lint/tissue, or handbag, etc.
Note however that small debris often enters the port because it falls on or sticks to the Lightning connectors on your cables and accessories, which can be hard to avoid.
expand_moreIf contaminants getting inside my Lightning port is the cause of connectivity issues, why are only some of my cables causing problems?The issues you may notice with certain cables have typically been CAUSED by contamination in the port. The black marks you'll often find on connector pins of intermittent/failed cables are caused by the arcing and oxidation across imperfect connections. Of course this may have occurred more for some cables than others, often those more heavily/commonly used.
To avoid further damage to cables, we recommend cleaning both the Lightning port AND your cables & accessories.
PurePort can usually revive the connectivity of damaged cable tips, returning them to full functionality.
